Hampson Auctions achieves £1m sale at Oulton Park Gold Cup

Hampson Auctions says its latest flagship classic car sale at the Oulton Park Gold Cup achieved a sale figure north of £1m – with more than 80 per cent of the 120 lots finding new homes.

Topping the results was a 1976 Ferrari 308 Vetroresina, the rare fibreglass-bodied 308, which sold for £73,125.

Next up was a 1978 Aston Martin V8 Oscar India, which sold for £55,125 – despite being offered at no reserve.

Third in the list of top sale prices was a 1989 Audi ‘Ur’ quattro 2.2 Turbo 10v. Carrying the sought-after ‘MB’ engine code, it sold for £40,500.

Proving the power of offering cars at no reserve, four more of the top 10 sellers were offered without a reserve.

A 2014 Land Rover Defender 110 XS sold for £34,312, a 1967 Jaguar E-type 4.2 FHC made £32,344, a track-ready, Rothmans-liveried 1981 Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2 sold for £30,375 and a 1934 Bentley 3½-litre Sports Special Roadster sold for £23,062.

Market-leading sale figures

So far in 2025, Hampson Auctions has achieved an 84 per cent sale rate in 2025, which MD Zach Hamilton says is significantly ahead of any other UK auction house.

“It’s great to get another strong sale under our belts, and it’s testament to our ever-increasing focus on offering high-quality vehicles across the price spectrum.

“My personal favourite was the 1994 Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9. This quintessential hot hatch boasted power steering and air conditioning – both highly desirable in this model.

“It’s not surprising that the bidding was brisk, powering past the £17,000 estimate to achieve an amazing £20,812.

The next Hampson Auctions sale is on Sunday 28 September at Bolesworth Castle.

The auction house also runs online timed auctions, called Hampson Marketplace; the next one goes live on Friday 22 August.
