Auction Car of the Week: 2000 Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo Plus

Few cars of the 1990s offered such a potent cocktail of style, speed and character as the Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo.

When Fiat unveiled the Coupe in 1993, it was a bold and shocking departure from the mainstream. Its angular, slash-cut styling divided opinion, but the performance of its 220hp turbocharged five-cylinder engine was never in doubt.

Penned by Chris Bangle of BMW fame, the Coupe still looks strikingly modern. It remains one of the most distinctive front-wheel-drive performance cars ever.

Tangled in up blue

As Coupe production came to an end in 2000, the special edition 20v Turbo Plus saw Fiat’s sports car sign off in style.

Finished in Electric Blue, this particular car is offered by Iconic Auctioneers as part of its Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show. A time capsule example with fewer than 36,000 miles on the clock, it will go under the hammer on 9 November 2025.

‘Plus’ specification brought a host of desirable upgrades, including a bodykit, push-button start and the all-important six-speed manual gearbox. The latter allowed the Coupe to reach a top speed of 155mph – an impressive figure even today.

Emerging from hibernation

The Fiat’s interior has been retrimmed in black leather piped in red, which makes for a striking contrast with its vivid exterior.

The car comes with a comprehensive history file, including a fully stamped service book, invoices, previous MOT certificates, brochures and the complete dealer pack. Importantly for collectors, it also retains the original red spare key.

Mechanically, the Fiat is equally well presented. Its most recent cambelt service took place in 2022 at 35,748 miles, with minimal use since. It has spent the past seven years in a private collection, where it was dry stored and used sparingly. The MOT remains valid until September 2026.

A future classic

With an auction estimate of £8,000 to £10,000, this low-mileage Coupe 20v Turbo Plus looks attractively priced given the current interest in 1990s performance cars

The Fiat Coupe was always a vehicle that celebrated individuality and performance in equal measure. This beautifully kept 20v Turbo Plus is a surefire future classic, and looks as daring today as it did 25 years ago.
