Even among the spiciest super saloons of the early 2000s, the Evo IX MR FQ-360 HKS has a special allure. This was Mitsubishi’s farewell to its legendary 4G63 engine: a final flourish before the Evo X heralded the arrival of a new, all-aluminium power unit.
For many enthusiasts, the Evo IX MR FQ-360 HKS remains a sweet spot. It’s a car that blends blistering pace with surprising composure – and a bona fide modern classic to boot.
The Evo featured here will be sold by Iconic Auctioneers in an online auction that closes on 16 December 2025. Keen to place a bid? Here’s what you need to know…
A fitting send-off

Mitsubishi did not treat the FQ-360 as a token run-out model. With input from famous Japanese tuning house HKS, the car gained a titanium turbo impeller and a high-flow fuel pump, along with an HKS control unit (ECU) and exhaust system.
The result, helped by Mitsubishi’s MIVEC variable valve timing, was 371hp at 6,887rpm and a robust 363lb ft of torque at just 3,200 rpm. It gave the FQ-360 a rabid in-gear urgency that made it feel quicker point-to-point than the more powerful FQ-400.
Only 200 cars were allocated for the UK, and at £35,539 when new it sat comfortably above the already potent FQ-300. To justify the bigger outlay, the Evo’s chassis gained Bilstein springs that subtly lowered its ride height, along with upgraded Super Active Yaw Control, Alcon front brakes and Brembo rears.
Aerodynamic tweaks included a carbon fibre front spoiler and subtle ridges on the rear roofline to calm airflow. Speedline alloys and automatic headlights completed the visual makeover. Inside, the Evo benefited from new Recaro seats with ‘IX MR’ logos, tinted rear glass and piano black plastic trim.
One for the purists

The car offered here is number 192 of the 200 imported into the UK. Finished in titanium grey, it remains in reassuringly standard configuration. Mileage is a modest 52,000 from new, supported by a full main dealer service history and the original bill of sale. Its single former keeper appears to have treated it with care, preserving both its condition and mechanical integrity.
With interest rising in rare, rally-bred machines from the 2000s, the Evo IX MR FQ-360 HKS sits in a particularly desirable niche. As the last chapter for the cherished 4G63 engine, it also combines purposeful engineering with genuine scarcity.
With a guide price of between £30,000 and £35,000, this low-owner, factory-correct Evo – located in Essex – offers a compelling opportunity for collectors and keen drivers alike. Click here to see more photos of the Evo FQ-360 online.
