Auction Car of the Week: Mercedes-Benz Brabus SV12 Roadster

Even by the extravagant standards of Brabus in the early 2000s, the SV12 BiTurbo Roadster stands apart.

A modified version of the Mercedes-Benz SL600, this was German engineering at its boldest. Its twin-turbocharged 6.3-litre V12 served up 640hp and could propel this luxurious roadster to 212mph. Few cars of the era could match its combination of speed, comfort and sheer presence.

To create the SV12, Brabus didn’t simply tune the existing Mercedes-Benz V12 engine – it completely rebuilt it. Displacement was increased from 5.5 to 6.3 litres, thanks to a milled crankshaft, larger pistons and reworked cylinder heads.

Bespoke camshafts and a stainless-steel exhaust also helped to extract a colossal 757lb ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a reinforced five-speed automatic gearbox and self-locking differential. The result was effortless, continent-crossing pace delivered with limousine-like refinement.

A usable modern classic

Externally, the SV12 wore a subtle aerodynamic package and Brabus Monoblock VI alloy wheels – in this case freshly refurbished 20-inch rims wrapped in new tyres. Inside, the Exclusive Red leather trim contrasts strikingly with black ash wood veneer, giving the cabin a notable lift over a standard R230-generation SL.

Cutting-edge technology of the era, such as Active Body Control with axle lift, adaptive cruise control (Distronic) and bi-xenon headlights all make for a very usable modern classic.

This particular Brabus SV12 will be sold by Iconic Auctioneers at the Iconic Sale, which takes place during the NEC Classic Motor Show on Saturday 8 November 2025. Fewer than 20 examples of the SV12 were made, and this is believed to be one of three cars in the UK.

Supplied new in January 2004, it has covered just 30,459 miles and comes with a comprehensive service history, including recent work in 2025.

A 200mph car for £60,000

Wearing deep Obsidian Black paint, this car’s condition reflects long-term ownership and collector-level care. Accompanied by its original manuals, handbooks and history file, it has an MOT valid until August 2026. The estimated sale price at the NEC auction is between £60,000 and £70,000.

Mercedes-Benz Brabus SV12 Roadster

With 640hp on tap and relatively under-the-radar styling, the Brabus SV12 Roadster remains one of the coolest and most exciting Mercedes-Benz derivatives of the modern era.

Rare, brutally fast and beautifully finished, it epitomises what Brabus does best. If you can afford the fuel bills, we can think of few finer ways to drive a long distances.
